American Christianity overemphasizes grace to the point we ignore God’s wrath and punishment. We believe God’s grace will overlook any sin. However, the Bible warns us God’s mercy has a limit. Exodus 33 teaches us Moses was highly regarded by Yahweh Himself. However, Jeremiah 15 tells us the Israelites were so sinful even Moses could not persuade Yahweh to extend mercy to the Israelites. For us, James 5 tells us the effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much; however, just as the Israelites sinned beyond Moses’ ability to rescue them, so too we should be afraid of being so sinful that a righteous man could not rescue us from God’s wrath.
